A: 606's heavier flight likely due to full crop and heavier weight. 602 appeared
to be flying very well.

Flight is controlled and even. Avoidant.

A: BAR. Flight should improve now that the bird is in a larger enclosure.

A: L ulna fracture has good callus formation on x-ray. Fracture site has healed slightly displaced on skyline view, but wing overall feels straight. L wing joint were very stiff during PT and was able to get full extension after a few stretches. L wing would benefit from coming out of the wing wrap soon.

P: AD review rads and see if wing came come out of wrap.

Left bandages off but did replace fabric wrap on left wing. Gave meds orally, dropped 65g rat/rabbit

O: L figure 8 wrap intact. L shoulder bandage clean and intact. L ulna bandage under wing wrap soaked with blood. Changed L dorsal ulna bandage without removing wing wrap. Cleaned wound w/ chlorohex and applied manuka honey/duoderm gel, covered w/ telfa/tegaderm. Found third wound over L pectoral just blow the middle of L clavicle, pulled deep scabbed plug and cleaned wound w/ chlorohex. Applied TAO and covered pectoral wound w/ telfa/tegaderm. Checked IOPs OU. Fluids that were built up in R leg yesterday have been absorbed. Gave fluids in L inguinal and gave oral/IM meds. Retrieved 31g of whole chick scrap. Moved to back room and dropped 44g of chick/rat.

A: Patient's mentation appears to be improving and was active during catch. L shoulder bandage did not have signs of drainage being soaked along bandage. L dorsal ulna bandage was completely soaked from drainage. Patient acting painful over L ulna wound while cleaning. Third gunshot wound found over L pectoral and have a deep scab that was pulled out, surface of wound appears minor but wound goes deep based on length of plug that was pulled out. IOP values appear fairly similar in both eyes.
Weight change: -2 g (0 %)

P: Monitor bandage over L pectoral and change and apply TAO EOD.

O: Collected fecal from cage. Noted unabsorbed fluids over R leg. Collected blood from L medial metatarsal. Changed L dorsal ulna bandage under wrap, cleaned w/ chlorohex and applied manuka honey/duoderm gel and covered w/ telfa/tegaderm. L figure 8 wrap intact. Changed bandage over L shoulder and cleaned w/ chlorohex, applied TAO and covered w/ telfa/tegaderm. Could not find another wound around L shoulder. Skipped SQ fluids. Gave oral meds. Dropped 34g of chick.

A: Patient alert and responsive during catch. Will need to monitor for unabsorbed fluids, skipped giving SQ fluids today as there was fluid still present over R leg. Basic blood values are normal, but lead toxicity is present. Likely that patient was shot with lead ammunition. Was able to change L ulna bandage without removed figure 8 wrap. L ulna bandage was soaked through. L shoulder bandage had very little soak through and should be fine to be changed EOD.

P: Rx DMSA and CaEDTA. Recheck lead in a week. Change L ulna bandage under figure 8 wrap without removing wrap. Change L shoulder bandage EOD.

S: Sternal in transport box.

O: Began physical exam and identified L ulna fracture. Gave 0.23 cc torb IM and took radiographs. Removed scab over L dorsal ulna. Cleaned wound with dilute chlorhex and flush well with ~10cc sterile NaCl. Packed wound with duoderm gel and manuka honey. Bandaged with telfa/tega. Removed scab over L ventral shoulder and cleaned wound with dilute chlorhex. Applied duoderm and manuka and bandaged with telfa/tega. Placed figure 8 wrap on L wing. Gave 60 cc LRS SQ in R leg inguinal area. Gave 0.77cc clinda PO, 0.23cc baytril PO, 0.38cc meloxicam PO, 0.50 terb PO, and 0.17 cc simbadol IM. Placed in cage in ICU w/o heat support.

Large entry wound over L dorsal wing- tissue appears somewhat inflamed and irritated. Very friable tissue present.
Only one other entry wound found- over L ventral shoulder. The wound is much smaller and does not appear inflamed/masticated. UTL entry wound for the second bullet in shoulder

Radiographic findings: 3 bullets confirmed on rads. Confirmed oblique ulna fracture, midshaft; radius intact. No abnormalities seen in shoulder girdle

A: Pt presented with a L ulna fracture as the result of a gunshot wound. In addition, the bird was additionally shot at least twice more in the L shoulder, although damage appears to be limited to the soft tissue. Ulna fracture is in relatively good alignment and may or may not need surgical repair to heal. The wound to the ulna may be starting to get infected/may already be infected, so this is a concern. Prognosis is heavily guarded for the time being.
